Speculation on Kenny Omega’s Status with New Japan

It was previously reported that Kenny Omega’s contract with New Japan was set to expire on January 31st, two days after the WWE Royal Rumble event.

There is a rumor going around that Kenny Omega may have actually got out of his contract back on January 9th and is now a free agent. Dave Meltzer mentioned the situation on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio and said that he can not confirm if Omega is or is not a free agent at this time.

It’s worth noting that on recent podcast appearances by Omega, he keeps claiming that he is a free man now and he can pick and choose to do whatever he wants in regards to his future. He says that he is taking his time and he hopes to have a decision shortly on what he plans to do and where he intends to work.

In regards to him appearing at Sunday’s Royal Rumble event, it’s possible he could appear but it would be a long stretch. Omega is working an event in Chile the night before, so he’d have to basically catch a flight or cancel his appearance at last minute to get to The Rumble in time.
