WWE SmackDown Live Results – January 3 2017

SmackDown kicks-off with a look back at the recent transgressions between The Miz, Renee Young, and Dean Ambrose. The Miz is in the ring with Maryse.

Miz says we are looking at the IT couple, the reason for the ratings spike, the most must-see WWE Champion in history, and the Intercontinental Champion. He says he only has one New Year’s resolution, and that is to be more forgiving. He says Renee Young owes him an apology, and asks her to come out and do so.

Renee doesn’t appear and Miz rhymes off the reasons as to why she needs to apologise. He says she has let personal issues interfere with her professional life and suddenly Dean has a title shot for no real reason. He’s not wrong. The fans chant for Ambrose, who meets their demands and comes to the ring. Maryse slaps Dean as he enters the ring and Miz leaves. Dean grabs the mic and says the hard part of his night is over, because Maryse hits harder than he does.

We get a look at the contract signing tonight, between John Cena and AJ Styles, as well as the match between Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin, which is up next!

Baron Corbin Vs. Dolph Ziggler

Ziggler starts off the match with some right hands. Ziggler runs at Corbin for a splash in the corner but Corbin catches him in mid-air. Ziggler maintains control until Corbin pushes a dropkick away.

The Most Metal Athlete whips Ziggler into the corner hard and knocks him down. Ziggler is knocked off the apron to the floor. Corbin follows and drives Dolph into the side of the ring. Ziggler stars to make a comeback as he nails a dropkick heading to the break.

We return to see Corbin still in control. He steps on Ziggler’s head while pulling up on his arm to add more pain. Ziggler jumps off the middle rope right into a huge right hand that gives Corbin a near-fall.

Ziggler starts to make a comeback and hits a swinging neckbreaker for a 2-count. Dolph jumps for a Fameasser but Corbin throws him high in the air, then hits a huge clothesline that gets him another 2-count of his own.

Ziggler sends Corbin into the ring post before delivering a fameasser for a close two count. Ziggler hits the Zig Zag, but somehow Corbin kicks out. Dolph beats on Corbin in the corner and the referee pulls him away, Dolph goes back to it, aggressive, and again the referee pulls him away. Corbin catches Dolph with The End of Days as he comes at him and that’s all she wrote!

Winner: Baron Corbin

After the match, Corbin leaves the ring and grabs a chair. Corbin comes back in and is about to his Ziggler with it when Kalisto comes running out to make the save. Corbin swings the chair but Kalisto ducks and dropkicks the chair out of Baron’s hands. Kalisto suckers Corbin into falling over the top rope, then grabs the chair and wards him off. Corbin leaves and Ziggler gets to his feet. Ziggler cracks Kalisto with a superkick, then shouts at him that he doesn’t need anyone. The fans chant yes as Dolph leaves. I smell a heel turn.

We get a look at 205 Live and the return of Tajiri on the show tonight after SmackDown.

We see Carmella backstage and James Ellsworth approaches her. He thanks her for the kind words she’s given him, and also wishes her the best of luck tonight. He’s nervous. He gives her his t-shirt and she asks him to accompany her to the ring, again he is too nervous to even speak.

We see Apollo Crews, Mojo Rawley and Rhyno talking in the dressing room. Dolph Ziggler comes in and tosses things around the room and they try to calm him down. Apollo asks Dolph why he attacked Kalisto and says that they’re friends, and Dolph responds with a big headbutt and the two brawl before being pulled apart.

Becky Lynch is out next for a match!

Becky Lynch Vs. La Luchadora

Becky catches a kick right away, but Luchadora slaps her in the face. Becky drives some forearms into the back before taking her down for some punches to the face.

Lynch beats Luchadora all around the ring before slamming her head into two different corners. Becky hits the Bexploder suplex, so Luchadora takes a break outside the ring.

She slides under the ring and emerges from the other side. It may be a different woman in the mask. La Luchadora goes for a moonsault and misses, so Becky puts on the DisArmHer to get the win.

Winner: Alexa Bliss

Becky pulls the mask off after the match to reveal Alexa Bliss. Becky stares confused and behind her another La Luchadora appears and attacks. Alexa and Luchadora beat on Becky before gloating and leaving.
