SmackDown Live opens with John Cena’s music hitting and a mixture of cheers and boo’s from the Chicago crowd. Cena comes to the ring and tells the fans to let it rain because he’s missed it.
Cena says it doesn’t matter where you go, there is nothing like WWE and the energy of the All State Arena. The fans start chanting for CM Punk and Cena asks if they’re shouting that he sucks. He says given all that’s happened in 2016 he figured they’d be chanting for the Cubs, which gets a mixed reaction. John goes on to say that tonight’s show is a huge one, and then he asks who will walk out as the Champion tonight. AJ Styles’s name gets, by far, the biggest reaction from the Chicago crowd.
Cena says he is a fan of AJ, who has made a year of telling people that “they don’t want none”. He says that brings us to the question: “what the hell am I doing here?” The fans start chanting for The Undertaker. Cena says hearing that makes him think a lot of people are planning his future and 2016 hasn’t been a great one for SuperCena. He says a lot of people say he’s washed-up, he already has one foot out the door.
He says he’s here to set the record straight: he isn’t going anywhere and he’s sick of the new-era BS. It’s still his era. He says he’s here to watch the main event very closely because, whoever wins, he’s challenging them to a title match at The Royal Rumble. Cena says you might say he can’t do that but he just did, because he’s John Cena, recognise. Great promo.
As Cena leaves we go to the announcers, who talk about the huge Triple Threat main event tonight, as well as Becky Lynch V Alexa Bliss for the Women’s Championship. The Wyatt Family make their way to the ring.

Jason Jordan reverses another Irish whip with a dropkick and both men are down. Tags to Gable and Harper. Gable hits a springboard crossbody on Harper, then lands a beautiful German suplex for a 2-count. Bray Wyatt causes a distraction, which allows Harper to hit a clothesline on Gable.
We return to see Chad Gable being grounded with a headlock. Harper drapes Gable between the ropes and catapults him into the middle rope neck-first. Gable almost gets counted-out but Orton climbs outside and hits Gable with two back body drops on the barricade.
Back inside the ring, Orton then lands a suplex onto the top rope. Next, Orton bounces Gable off of the top rope to land a suplex. Luke tags back in and hits a big slam, then applies the Gator Roll. Dolph Ziggler is backstage with Renee Young. Ziggler says Corbin came looking for a fight last week and he might have made a dumb decision goading him, but some of the most fun nights he’s had came from bad decisions. Ziggler says he’s spent a lot of time wondering when it’s going to happen for him. He says he thinks he’s the wild card tonight and he could change the whole game.
James Ellsworth gets interviewed as well and he says it gets him down sometimes that he is not pretty and not a big guy. Carmella appears and says she finds Ellsworth “uniquely attractive”. JBL says he’s an abomination of nature, Carmella but be blind.
